Jim Drummond is a private criminal defense lawyer in Norman, Oklahoma, handling trials and criminal appeals in federal and state courts in Oklahoma and Texas. His wife, Deborah King Drummond, serves as his investigator and will soon be certified by Oklahoma’s Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training (CLEET) as an investigator. She holds a degree in Psychology with distinction from the University of Oklahoma as well as certifications as a Clinical Hypnotherapist.
From 2007-2008 Jim was Supervisor of the Oklahoma-Western Capital Habeas Corpus Unit, representing clients in all 3 Oklahoma federal judicial districts. He is licensed in Oklahoma and Texas (active) and Arizona (inactive), as well as in all Oklahoma federal district courts, the Fifth, Sixth and Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court. He currently represents one client on Kentucky’s death row. He has represented other clients on appeal in cases originating in Oklahoma, Wyoming, Kentucky, and Texas.
Jim is Chair of the Legal Ethics Advisory Panel of the Oklahoma Bar Association. From 2001-2006 he was a voting member the Oklahoma Sentencing Commission, mandated to make recommendations to the Legislature on sentencing policy and to supervise the Oklahoma Criminal Justice Resource Center. He serves on the Criminal Justice Act Standing Committee for the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals. He has co-produced and co-taught two-day seminars on the topics of the effect of the CSI television series on jury deliberations in criminal cases, defending methamphetamine cases and the forensic science of crime scenes.
Jim is accepting new clients, but is not in a position to take pro bono cases or veteran pro bono cases at no charge due to a very active caseload. He has accepted one or two veteran cases a year, but only as referred to him by the Oklahoma Bar Association Lawyers for Heroes program.
